Promoter Leif Hansen tossed in Norwegian debutant Willy Olsen with the strong and seasoned Dutchman Heintje van der Zee (over 30 fights since 1952).When the fight was over Olsen danced in his ring corner. "Probably from joy over that he had survived the 6 rounds, " wrote Leif K.Nilsen in Aftenposten and continued: "Olsen couldn't possibly believe that he had won,for he was totally outboxed. " The Dutchman showed mercy by not taking advantage of a cut above Olsen's eye and throwing body punches for most of the fight.
