"A two-fisted attack by Charley Belanger of Vancouver, B. C., leading contender for Canadian light-heavyweight honors, repelled the invasion of Ernie Owens of San Francisco, at the Arena Monday night.

"Belanger after carrying the fight to Owens throughout the ten rounds was awarded the unanimous decision. The decision was popular with the large crowd which attended the first boxing show here since last September.

"The Vancouver boy, sent to the canvas in the fifth round with a short right to the jaw, came back and almost evened the count that round. He showered blows over Owens, landing repeatedly with a one-two punch to the head. Belanger swarmed over Owens in the last round, beating the clever San Francisco boy to the punch. He rocked Owens with rights and lefts to the head and Owens began to hold on.

"Owens started strong, slipping in a deft left hand and following with a stiff right to the face and had a slight edge in the first three rounds, although the first round was conceded even. The fourth was even and Owens took the fifth by virtue of the knockdown. Belanger was accorded a slight shade in the remaining rounds. The French Canadian roughed it with Owens in the clinches, much to the latter's evident dislike."
