Grand Rapids Press, June 30, 1931: Lyle Blain of Grand Rapids fought one of the best fights of his career in whipping Jimmy Smith of Detroit in six rounds. Smith showed he could box and carried a potent left hook that staggered Blain several times. Lyle used his left hand beautifully and boxed well all the way. He was also punching hard but Smith, although a bit groggy several times, refused to go down. The last round of the fight really decided the winner as up until then, matters were fairly even. It was a great scrap all the way.
