From the April 17, 1927 Wallace Press Times, the following relevant coverage reads:
Firpo's Hard Swings Force Eddie Shelton To The Canvas
Eddie Shelton got too friendly with the canvas, and Young Firpo was awarded a knockout victory in the eleventh round when Shelton showed preference to sitting over standing in their bout at the Eagles Hall last night.
Throughout half the melee Shelton used the floor for defensive purposes, falling whenever Firpo's attack got too hot. During the other half Eddie was buy adjusting half-Nelson's, headlocks and hog ties to keep from getting battered to pieces. He showed more ability as a rough rider or wrestler than a fighter.
In the tenth, Shelton switched tactics to bring a little football into play, tackling Firpo from his reclining position on the mat.
Firpo was banging away in his wild style, and about wore himself out trying to master the ju jitsu defense. He had Shelton in the prone position through most of the tenth. Midway of the eleventh, Shelton sat down heavily after a series of clubbings and was late getting up on the count of ten.
