Adkins had a clear edge in the first five rounds, before Greer began a rally in the 6th round. Greer began to hammer Adkins, who appeared to tire, freely in the 7th and 8th rounds. Adkins was knocked down for a six-count in the 9th round by a barrage of blows, before going down again from a left hook. The referee stopped the bout, without bothering to count.
This was the first loss for Adkins after nine straight wins to begin his career.
