After a competitive first round, Perrin landed a left hook to the body that sent Hodges in retreat. In the final seconds of the round, another left hook to the body knocked Hodges down. As he was on the canvas, Hodges corner threw in the towel. After being administered smelling salts in his corner, Hodges started throwing punches near his cornermen and the referee, before being subdued. Ringside observers felt that Hodges may have taken a dive.
