NY Times Aug. 8, 1922 - "Charlie McKenna, former amateur light-heavyweight champion, made an auspicious debut in the professional ranks in a six-round bout. McKenna won the decision over Tim Kelly of California in a special preliminary. The former amateur's speed and cleverness earned the decision. He caught a tartar in Kelly, a boxer capable of standing up under hard battering and coming in for more. McKenna's boxing ability, however, overcame the ruggedness and aggressiveness of the boxer from the Far West."
