Romero knocked Martinez down for a three-count in the 8th round. Going into the 10th round, Martinez had a slight edge in the bout, having won five of the nine rounds. Romero knocked Martinez down with a right hand for a four-count, and then put him down again for a seven-count with the same punch. Romero had Martinez out on his feet with five seconds left in the bout, when Martinez's corner threw in the towel.
