Manz cut Lane over his left eye in the 1st round, and would have his right eye practically closed at the end of the bout. The Idaho Statesman described this as a brutal brawl all the way, and one of the greatest fights ever staged in Boise.

Manz nearly put Lane away in the 1st round, pounding him along the ropes. Lane's best round was the 6th round, when he had Manz in trouble from a left hook. Both fighters were in trouble after that at times, until Manz hurt Lane with a smashing right hand to the jaw in the 10th round. Lane covered up in a corner, but Manz hammered away at him, finally landing an overhand right that dropped Lane. After laying on the canvas until seven, Lane pulled himself up, just failing to beat the ten-count.
