Marvin Hagler had his name legally changed from Marvin Nathaniel Hagler to Marvelous Marvin Hagler on April 23, 1982.
Hagler's attorney, Steve Wainwright, said that Hagler and his co-managers, Goody and Pat Petronelli, were irked when ABC-TV insisted on dropping Marvelous from the champion's introduction before his first-round knockout of Caveman Lee on March 7 in Atlantic City. Wainwright said the network had told him: "If he wants to be called Marvelous Marvin at ABC, tell him to go to court and have his name changed." [1]
