This was Thomas's first fight in nearly one year. DeLeon pressed the fight, driving Thomas to the ropes, where he was picked apart by Thomas. Thomas gave him a pounding, in this manner in the 5th round; before driving DeLeon to the ropes in the 6th, in an even more dominating round. Thomas continued his onslaught in the 7th round, and DeLeon appearing out of gas, was rescued by the referee.
