This fight was to be fought at a contract weight of 138 pounds, but nearly did not come off as Flores could not make that weight, and complained of feeling ill after struggling to make the weight. Montes camp initially balked at going on with the fight, before finally agreeing to take it despite Flores weighing 139 pounds. Flores built up a lead early in the fight, and held off Montes, who scored a eight-count knockdown in the final round. Flores did not appear to be hurt from the light left to the jaw, with which Montes scored the knockdown.
