Chavez knocked Paz down with a right hand in the 4th round for a nine-count. Chavez pounded Paz again in the 5th round, and Paz's corner requested the bout to be stopped after the 5th round. The referee did not acknowledge the corner until the 6th round had started, however.
Chavez reportedly broke his left hand in this bout.
