Walker fought a defensive bout for much of the first four four rounds, before he began to open up. Mendes slipped to the floor in the 4th and 5th rounds, and took a hard left uppercut in the 6th round. Mendes came back to win the 7th round, with a strong showing. In the 8th round, Walker stunned Mendes with a left uppercut, and then landed a hard right to the stomach that had Mendes in pain. Walker followed up his advantage with a left hook to the jaw, that sent Mendes down for the ten-count.
