The fighters ended the tenth and final round still throwing punches well after the bell and a wild Bowman punch landed squarely in the back of referee Allan Lovell. This outraged Lovell who kicked Bowman's mouthpiece across the canvas, then picked it up and hurled it into the stands at the rear of the New Daisy Theatre. A melee began to break out from Bowman’s corner as his trainer stormed across the ring at Lovell.
