Freddie Steele's inaugural card as a matchmaker. State Boxing Commissioner Les Francis "immediately announced a six-months suspension for Gibbons, with two-thirds of his purse held up. Francis charged Gibbons with 'not trying' after he opened with a flurry of swings in attempting to keep Ward away." Ward's 17th KO in 23 starts (with no losses and two draws).
