Dixon would be permanently suspended by the Portland boxing commission on April 13, 1929 after he pulled out of an April 16, 1929 main event in Portland against Frankie Forbes. Dixon claimed that a broken hand he had suffered against Homer Sheridan had not recovered sufficiently. The commission citing his bout with Johnson, chose to suspend him. An X-Ray of Dixon's right hand would later exonerate him.
