Henry Hank lost to Marion Conner by SD in round 10 of 10

Big time boxing came back to Canton, Ohio recently. The card was headlined by Henry Hank, Michigan light-heavy, who met young Marion Conner of Canton in a scheduled ten-rounder. Hank was the heavy favorite but ended up losing a split decision to young Conner. Hank started slowly but the pace quickened in the middle rounds and it looked as if Henry was off to the races. But Marion was not to be denied. He weathered the storm and came back punching with both hands. Conner had a big round in the tenth and this last round gave him an edge on the judges' score cards. Both fighters were bleeding from the nose and mouth from the fourth round on. Hank suffered a badly bruised hand in the late rounds but this did not seem to slow him up a great deal. Referee Tony Zale scored it 54•46 in favor of Hank. Judge Wallace Bailey scored it 54•46 Conner and Judge Jim Manos had it 53•47 Conner. Conner proved by his winning effort against Hank that he is ready for the top men in his division. Matchmaker Eddie Schaurer is ready to match him with any of the top ten. The card was promoted by Oscar Kortowich.
