Chalky Germaine lost to Yankee Allen by KO in round 9 of 10

In the 9th round Chalky Germaine (Germain) was sent through the ropes, and his head struck on the floor. He was seriously injured, and remained hospitalized over a week later. He eventually recovered.
It was suspected that this near-fatality caused Salt Lake City Police Chief R. F. Grant to refuse to issue further boxing permits and to "clamp down" on prizefighting in the city--which still was illegal. [1] [2]
