Piazza knocked down Davis twice in the 1st round. Davis recovered to knock Piazza down for a seven-count in the 2nd round, and for a no-count in the 3rd round. Davis had Piazza hurt again in the 4th round, but Piazza began to rally in the 5th round, as Davis began to tire in the 7th and 8th rounds. Davis recovered in the 9th round, and landed several left hooks that nearly knocked out Piazza, until he punched himself out. Piazza would rally in the 10th round, and had Davis staggering around the ring. Davis stunned Piazza in the 11th round, but Piazza rallied to win the round. Davis attempted to knockout Piazza with one shot in the 12th round, which allowed Piazza to outpoint him in the final round.
