Maxie Rosenbloom 182 lbs beat John Henry Lewis 180 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1935-07-17
- Location: Auditorium, Oakland, California, USA
- Referee: Oakland Frankie Burns
The early portion of the bout was marred by low blows from both boxers. With Lewis beginning the fouling with a few hard rights low, only to be retaliated more so by Rosenbloom, who admitted later that he was intentionally fouling Lewis in response to his earlier fouling. Aside from the fouling, Lewis put forth a solid body attack that Maxie, could not defend against until the 5th round.
In the 6th, Rosenbloom began to move around more, and began to land blows by going in and out in his light-hitting style. Rosenbloom continued to score in the 7th, but was slowed in the 8th as Lewis began to return to the body.
The two traded blows in the final two rounds, with Lewis continuing to focus on Maxie's body, while whipping left hooks and right crosses to the head of Rosenbloom. Lewis would stun Maxie in the 10th, with two right hands, that forced Maxie to clinch.
Though Lewis landed more punches, and the harder blows, Rosenbloom fought much better defensively and was able to force many clinches.
