Rosenbloom boxed lackadaisically in the first six rounds, as three were even and two slightly in favour of Maxie, in the eyes of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. In the 6th, Stillman with his back to the ropes, landed a left hook that started low and travelled upward, that hit Rosenbloom in the stomach. Rosenbloom went down, and acted as if he was fouled. The referee counted over Rosenbloom, reaching seven before he rose. Stillman landed a good right hand to the jaw, and appeared to send the bridge work in Rosenbloom's mouth flying. Rosenbloom came out with a renewed sense of purpose in the 7th round, and forced the action on Stillman, who was unable to do any further damage in the bout. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch' card favoured Rosenbloom 10-2-3 in rounds.
