Willi Besmanoff 194 lbs beat Calvin Wilson 190 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

A much needed International touch was injected into the anemic American heavyweight scene when the well-recommended German visitor, Billy Besmanoff, 194, made a fine impression in his local debut by outboxing and outpunching aggressive Calvin (Bang Bang) Wilson, 190, Philaadelphia, in a hard fought if unspectacular ten at St. Nicholas Arena. The German showed himself to be a cool, methodical operator, setting his own pace and making every punch count. He displayed a fast pair of hands and used them well in combinations to both head and body. Built on short, stocky lines, Besmanoff not only revealed good boxing ability at long range but a talent for infighting, an unusual asset among Europeans these days.
