Lowry offered very little offense in the bout, as he grabbed, clinched, and landed lightly to Payne's body. Lowry decided to open up in the 7th round, and landed a right cross on Payne. While this blow was landing, Payned landed a left hook to the chin that dropped Lowry hard. Lowry was counted out as he was attempting to beat the ten-count.
