Lowry gave a poor performance, backpedaling for all ten rounds. Lowry was warned to stop stalling in the 4th and 6th round, or he would be disqualified. Dempsey for his part, gave Lowry a boxing lesson, though he was hampered in the bout by an injured right hand. Lowry sported a heavily bandaged left hand after the bout, stating that he had injured it in the 3rd round, when he landed a punch on Dempsey's elbow.
