Oddly enough, shortly after this fight entered the record books, New York's Boxing Commission declared that Tommy Gibbons would have to fight and defeat Canada's Jack Renault to get a shot at Jack Dempsey. Gibbons decided against it, especially when he heard the fight with Dempsey was being moved to Montana.
