Coley Wallace 199 lbs lost to Elkins Brothers 190 lbs by TKO at 1:36 in round 2 of 8

  • Date: 1951-06-15
  • Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
  • Elkins Brothers, weighing in at 189 ½ pounds, from Washington, D.C., opened many eyes at Madison Square Garden last night with a second-round technical knockout of Coley Wallace, who weighed 199 ½ pounds and hails from Harlem. Wallace, a quick and agile fighter from New York, bears a striking facial and physical resemblance to Joe Louis. In the second round, Wallace was knocked down three times before referee Mark Conn intervened. He was already hurt in the first round, and Brothers' first punch of the second round—a powerful right to the chin—sent him down for a nine-count. Just ten seconds later, he was knocked down again. Throughout the round, Wallace endured a brutal beating without intervention from referee Conn before collapsing for a third time due to exhaustion. At this point, the referee stepped in to stop the fight.
