Richard Polite 144 lbs lost to Chico Romo 140 lbs by KO at 2:02 in round 2 of 10

  • Date: 1941-03-25
  • Location: Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA
  • Referee: Charley Randolph

After a even, uneventful first round, Romo threw a short right hand flush to Polite's jaw that froze him in his tracks. Rom followed with the same punch, to floor Polite. Polite rose at the count of five, and stumbled into a clinch. A few seconds later the bell rang signalling the end of the round. Timkeeper Billy Coe told the referee that it was a false alarm, and the fight was resumed. After some brief sparring, Romo hit Polite with another right hand as he covered in his corner. Polite was floored again and nearly rose as he grasped the ropes, only to fall down again at the count of nine.
