The bout was even after five rounds, with Braddock stalking the retreating Stillman. Braddock worked a left hook to the body and crossed a right hand, while Stillman landed his right hand to the jaw, to no effect. Braddock's punches showed more force in the later rounds, as his body attack began to wear down Stillman. Stillman's guard came down in the 9th round, and Braddock dropped him with a right hand to the jaw. Stillman rose at nine, and staggered to his corner as the round ended. In the 10th, Stillman tried to avoid Braddock, but was floored for another nine-count from a right hand to the jaw. Stillman rose, and was dropped again for a nine-count with a left hook. Referee Heisner stopped it after Stillman rose.
