"Furnishing an exhibition of boxing that overshadowed the featured event, Nick DeSalvo and Johnny Vacca fought eight rounds to a draw. This match would have been a befitting headliner for any programme. It was replete with cleverness and there was no letting up in the pace at which the boxers started. Vacca, who was knocked out by Arthur Roger in his last appearance here, had asked for another chance to make good and he did so last night in a manner that made many friends for him among local followers of boxing.

De Salvo was no set-up fighter and fought back at all stages; he showed as finished a style as Vacca but lacked in ring generalship which in early stages of the eight rounds De Salvo held a slight edge, but by his never-letting-up style Vacca evened matters to deadlock the decision. Following his splendid effort, Vacca jumped into the ring, as Roger and Sanstol were introduced, to challenge the winner.
