- Date: 1947-05-30
- Location: Honolulu Stadium, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA
- Referee: Walter Cho 78-80
- Judge: Dick Chang 79-78
- Judge: Willie Whittle 78-75
Young carried the fight in the first five rounds, and held Ortiz even in rounds six and seven, as the fight was fought at a fast pace. Young scored a knockdown in the 4th round with a left hook to the jaw, though Ortiz was up at the count of one. The turning point in the fight came in the 8th round, when Ortiz switched from boxing in an orthodox stance, to a southpaw stance. Young who had been outboxing Ortiz in the early rounds, while scoring with straight rights, was befuddled by Ortiz's style change and was forced to switch to attacking with left hooks, of which he threw few. Ortiz whose plan appeared to be to draw Young inside, struggled to do so, before the 8th round, after which he dominated the action.
Young lost points in the 11th and 13th rounds, due to low blows.
