Rocky Mountain Region Heavyweight Title
"'I must confess,'said Farrell at the clubs rooms, an hour later, 'that I underestimated Mexican Pete as a fighter. I know his mettle now, and I believe he can beat Jeffries, and that he is the coming heavyweight champion. I want to explain the reason of my rushes in the first round. Not being acclimated, I know that if I won it all it would have to be in the first two rounds. I was familiar with Pete's tactics-covering his face and protecting his wind, as he did in San Francisco with Jeffries-but I felt that if I could get him going in the opening rounds, I would have some show. As I said, I underestimated Pete's strength and the pounding I gave him had no more effect than if I had been pounding a bull. The rest is easily told. Pete was acclimated and I was not, but I do not say this to Pete's discredit. He won fairly and I was vanquished.'" (Cripple Creek Morning Times)
