Thomas was busy manhandling Christner through the first round and a half, when Christner nailed him with a powerful right hand that dropped his hands. Christner landed another one, and it appeared Thomas was about to be stopped as he dropped his hands. Thomas, standing in mid-ring, however, met Christner with a hard right hand, high on the forehead, that sent Christner stumbling back to the ropes before the bell ending the round. The bout was largely quiet, until the 6th round, when an attack from Thomas sent Christner down twice. Christner would outbox Thomas, to win the 7th. Thomas won the 8th round to take the decision.
