Cobb was knocked down once in the second round and once in the ninth round. Both men took heavy punishment in this bout, though Cobb landed more blows, his blows were not as damaging as Godfrey's. Godfrey was hurt badly in the 4th round by a right cross, but a wild follow up attempt from Cobb failed to land a finishing blow. Godfrey finished the bout unmarked, while Cobb had swelling around his eyes and a cut over his left eye.
