Papers divided -- some credited Hart with win based on his last two rounds. Others said O'Brien "bested Marvin Hart, of Louisville, on points. For four rounds O'Brien had all the best of the contest, but in the fifth he got a punch to the jaw that (sent) him on queer street, and as Hart then cut loose and fought his prettiest, O'Brien barely managed to stay the round out. He just managed to reach his corner and would have fallen headlong had not his seconds caught him. He came up weak for the sixth, but improved after a few seconds' fighting, but, getting more damaging blows, was forced to again resort to hugging, and once went to his knees without a blow to get out of harm's way. But Jack was not all in, and in one of the rallies rushed Hart to the ropes and smashed him on the cheek with a right, cutting a gash from which the blood flowed in a stream." (Newark Advocate)
