Referee Day "gave his new scoring system its first try-out in Detroit and it proved popular. After each round he announced, via a score board, his decision on that round and fans were enabled to tell at all times just how the match was going. The decision was popular too as Lomski's victory was a clean cut one and Belanger was forced to hang on weakly several times."

The Free Press felt that Lomski took nothing for granted in their rematch, as he was aggressive throughout the bout, in the manner and form he had shown previously. Belanger had nothing more than his jab in this bout, as the right hand that troubled Lomski in their previous meeting, was not a factor. Lomski was content to take Belanger's jab, and work his way inside to pound Belanger with right hands to the body. Belanger suffered a deep cut over his left eye in the 8th round
