Mars was able to outbox Herman, and to largely avoid his powerful right hand, except in the 3rd round, when he was hurt. The Dayton Daily News reported that Herman was knocked down with a body shot in the 5th round, though the Dayton Herald did not report the knockdown, while noting Herman had been hurt. The Daily News gave Mars seven rounds and Herman two rounds.
