Camponeshi warned Cruz in the second and third rounds for hitting on the break. Because he does not speak English, Camponeshi took Cruz over to a Spanish-speaking ringside physician to explain why he was being warned. Later in the third, a point was taken away from Cruz for hitting on the break. Cruz's trainer Victor De La Rosa jump onto the ring apron to argue with Camponeshi and was then ejected from ringside. Since De La Rosa was the only one working Cruz's corner, a replacement was sent out to work the rest of the fight, but Cruz refused his help and Camponeshi disqualified him.
