Elzear Rioux 204 lbs beat Emilio Solomon 192 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • "With a chance to meet Larry Gains in a title bout, offered to him should he win against King Solomon last night, Elzear Rioux fought or rather wrestled his way to victory over the fighter from Panama in a ten-round bout. With an advantage of fourteen pounds in weight, Rioux mauled and wrestled Solomon until he had him worn down and beaten. Rioux towered over his opponent in height, and had a much longer reach, which made it next to impossible for Solomon to land a clean punch with any weight back of it.

As the bout went on Rioux fought with greater confidence in each round, while Solomon, who apparently realized that he could not concede weight and reach, devoted his greatest efforts to clinching and hanging on. He did this to such an extent that some one in the crowd suggested that the pair should be included on the wrestling programme at the Mount Royal Arena on Monday night. There is no doubt that Rioux has improved in his fighting, but at the same time it must be remembered that Solomon did not show the form he has done in other seasons."
