Jack Robinson beat Abe Hollandersky by KO in round 9 of 15
- Date: 1909-10-31
- Location: West Side A.C., McDonoughville, Louisiana, USA
- Referee: Tom McGinty
The fight was scheduled to go fifteen rounds, but terminated rather suddenly for Abe in the ninth, when Robinson landed a right jolt, followed by a swing and another jolt on the jaw. Although Abe fought gamely throughout the early rounds of the fight, Robinson was never in danger. He kept the "newsboy" away from him with his long left and right jabs. He sent Abe to the floor in the third and eighth rounds, and never seemed to be troubled by the latter's blows, although his kidneys were badly colored where Abe seemed bent on landing all his punches. McGinty, of Chicago, referee. (Monday, November 1, 1909: Paper: Times-Picayune (New Orleans, LA) Page: 16)
The fight was also covered by the Cincinnati Enquirer, "Uncle Joe, One of Many Interested Witnesses of Three Lively Boxing Bouts at New Orleans", for November 1, 1909. The article described the fight as a "rough and tumble affair," and noted that a Louisiana congressional party was present, most notably speaker Joe Cannon. who had waged bets on several of the fights. Also significantly, Abe's opponent Jack Robinson was described as a sparring partner of the Hall of Fame boxer Billy Papke who refereed several of the fights that day. The three bouts that took place that day were at the West Side Athletic Club in Jefferson Parish.
This fight culminated several months of a wrestling tour by Abe that started in Canada and included stops in Louisville, Kentucky and Tennessee. New London's The Day took note of Abe's long absence from New London, and Abe's BoxRec records shows a gap of several months since his last fight.
