Referee stopped the fight on towel due to cut, which Ellis sustained in round 2.

This bout was initially set as Murdoch’s PABA Light Heavyweight Title defence against Fijian Junior Birbal. Unfortunately Birbal was knocked out (first round) in Fiji on July 23, making him ineligible to contest in any fight for 30 days under Victoria State legislation & rules.

James Ellis (91.0kg) was the only one prepared to take the fight at very short notice, hence the vast weight difference. Murdoch weighed 81.2kg.
