Ward wasted little time in dispatching overmatched Glenn LaPlante in one round. Ward landed three left hooks to the head and then dropped the southpaw with a clean right cross to the side of the head. La Plante beat the count but seconds later after Ward missed with another right cross, he clipped the southpaw with a left hook to the back of the head. La Plante hit the floor and final time and was counted out at 2:59 of the 1st round.
