"Japan's Fighting Harada Tuesday defended his world bantamweight title for the 4th time by scoring a unanimous 15 round decision over Columbia's Bernardo Caraballo. Harada scored the only knockdown of the fight in the 1st round when he landed a right to the jaw after Caraballo had stung him with hard lefts and rights early in the round. Caraballo, with superior footwork and fast hands, gave Harada his toughest fight in his four title defenses." -United Press International
- Harada opened a cut over Caraballo's left eye in the 5th round and suffered a cut over his own left eye in the 8th.
- Harada was warned for butting and Caraballo lost a point in the 11th round for holding.
- Most of Japan's sportswriters were predicting a Caraballo victory due to the fact that Harada had to boil down from 147 to 118 within three months and they felt that he would not have sufficient stamina to cope with Caraballo's speed for 15 rounds.
- Unofficial UPI scorecard - 72-69 Harada
