Echevarria first pro fight was as a main event opponent, surprising all by scoring a knockout. Fillo fought top talent in over a hundred pro fights, including Freddie Miller and Kid Chocolate. After his ring career, Echevarria was a physical education coach for a private school, a sports columnist for several publications, as well as gym owner, trainer and manager of several fighters including world rated Hiram Bacallao. He died in Miami.
