Flash Elorde 132 lbs lost to Paolo Rosi 135 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10

"5th ranked Paolo Rosi made a strong pitch for a title bout with the champion Joe Brown last evening as he took a narrow split decision over southpaw Flash Elorde, Filipino lightweight champion. Rosi won last night only after shaking off the effects of three severe facial cuts which hampered his fighting. The southpaw style of Elorde, coupled with the streams of blood from the 2nd round on, bothered Rosi. Rosi won the fight on his inside battering where Elorde was inept. The Filipino, sensing he was trailing, turned out with a barrage in the 10th round but it was not enough to carry the victory." -San Mateo Times

  • Lou Viscusi, manager of lightweight champ Joe Brown, promised the winner of the fight a world title bout provided a $40,000 gurantee for Brown could be assured.
  • Attendance - 4,927
  • Gate - $16,927
  • Purses: Rosi - $4,300.00, Elorde - $3,300.00

  • "No more southpaws. I thought a southpaw would be easy. I hit and go away against right-handers but against these fellows I have to turn awkwardly. Everytime the blood comes down I have to think, he is a lefty, turn this way, don't turn that way." -Paolo Rosi
