"Wednesday night, Floyd Patterson knocked out Archie McBride, his first man-sized heavyweight foe. The end came at 1:46 of the 7th round at MSG. McBride was down three times. Patterson at 170 3/4 was the heaviest of his career but McBride scaled 186 1/4 pounds. A six-punch flurry dropped McBride for a count of nine late in the 6th after he had taken a beating in the 5th. Early in the 7th a right-left combination dropped Archie again for nine. A right polished off McBride who was draped on all fours. He took the 10-count on his knees." -Associated Press
