Patterson showed his lightning quick hands as Mieszala "appeared confused much of the time." It was a clear victory for Patterson. He knocked Mieszala down in the first and third rounds and had him in trouble again in the fifth before the referee stepped in and waved it off. At one point in the fight, Patterson knocked out Mieszala's mouthpiece. Mieszala immediately dropped to his knees to look for it. Rather than continuing to punch, Patterson turned away until the referee located the mouthpiece and put it back in Mieszala's mouth.
