Ford Smith 207 lbs beat Art Lasky 197 lbs by TKO in round 6 of 10
- Date: 1935-06-21
- Location: Dreamland Auditorium, San Francisco, California, USA
- Referee: Toby Irwin
Smith ouboxed and outsped the flat-footed Lasky, though Lasky had an edge in punching power. After losing the first round, and suffering a cut over his left eye in the 1st round, Lasky launched a two-fisted attack to the head and body, which failed to hurt Smith. By the 5th round, the cut over the left eye, was filling Lasky's eye with blood, and he was being battered around the ring by Smith. Referee Toby Irwin, then stepped in and stopped the bout.
This was considered a major upset, as Lasky had just lost a Heavyweight championship eliminator to recently crowned champion Jim Braddock. Lasky had been mentioned as a possible opponent for the new champion.
Odds: Lasky 3-to-1 favorite
