- The entertaining scrap begun with Berchelt, taking control early on, unloading a number of combinations and straight jabs on Vargas.
- Vargas suffered a cut above both eyes heading into the middle stages, one from a punch and one from an accidental clash of heads. He was checked by the doctor in both the ninth and tenth rounds.
- Berchelt maintained his intensity and by the eleventh round, the pressure was too much as Vargas’ swollen left eye caused the referee to call a halt.
