Franco Cavicchi beat Joe Bygraves by DQ in round 8 of 10

    • "European heavyweight champion Francesco Cavicchi was awarded an 8th round victory over Jamaica's Joe Bygraves on a foul last night although he was flat on his back. Bygraves pressed the fight all the way and was leading by a wide margin when he knocked the Italian down in the 8th round with an uppercut. Before delivering the blow, Bygraves pounded Cavicchi in the stomach. While Cavicchi was still out of action the referee, after a long consulation with the judges, issued a verdict giving Cavicchi the bout on a foul. He didn't explain, but apparently he thought the punches to Cavicchi's stomach were low." -Associated Press
